Cheddar Biscuits
Cheddar Cheese Biscuits
Ingredients:
2 cups self rising flour
1 cup buttermilk
½ cup shortening
Preheat the oven to 400F. Grease your skillet or baking dish. Set aside.
Work shortening with a fork or your hands until well incorporated. It will resemble a course meal. Make well in the middle of the mixture and begin to incorporate the buttermilk. Toss together until just combined. Do not over mix! Dough will be sticky. Place dough on a floured surface (flour your hands too) and gently fold a couple of times to ensure dough has come together. Shape to desired thickness and use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut biscuits. Place them in your greased pan, touching or not, and bake for 12-15 minutes. Brush melted butter before and after baking, if desired. Bake until golden brown.
